Let's Talk About pH and Your Skin

pH stands for potential hydrogen and is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a substance is. This range is from 0 (very acidic) to 14 (very alkaline). When it comes to the pH of your skin, it's reliant on the skin's acid mantle.

This acid mantle is made up of sebum (free fatty acids) excreted from the skin’s sebaceous glands, which mixes with lactic and amino acids from sweat to create the skin’s pH.

This acid mantle protects skin against external influences like bacteria, allergens and pollution, while maintaining moisture.

For your skin to remain balanced, your acid mantle will naturally stay slightly acidic with a pH of around 5.5.

When skins pH is off balance you can run into issues like overly oily, excessively dry, and painfully inflamed skin. Finding skincare products that are the right pH is essential for the health of your skin.

*UPDATE: In the shop now!* Dropping soon to help restore and keep your skins acid mantel in check: ANTI-BLEMISH Face Toner made at exactly a pH of 5.5 !
